A strong culture of evaluation is embedded throughout our organisation, and we apply the following evaluation principles – critical thinking, best use of data, high quality and transparent analysis, clear judgement and interpretation, evaluation utility – to all work that we deliver.
We work across all regions of the UK, with all sectors and offer a full suite capabilities from the design and delivery of short technical studies, to multi-year complex evaluation programmes, through learning partner support and training / capability building. ADR UK is a UK-wide partnership transforming public sector data into research insights and policy evidence to improve lives. We link together data held by different parts of government and facilitate safe and secure access for accredited researchers to these new, de-identified datasets.
This creates a sustainable body of knowledge about how our society and economy function and gives decision makers the answers they need to solve important policy questions, including evaluating policies and interventions.
ADR UK is made up of four national partnerships (ADR England, ADR Northern Ireland, ADR Scotland and ADR Wales) along with the Office for National Statistics. We are an investment by the Economic and Social Research Council, part of UK Research and Innovation.
AILYZE (www.ailyze.com) is an AI-powered qualitative data collection and analysis platform designed to help evaluators deliver faster, more rigorous, and transparent insights at scale.
AILYZE enables teams to analyse complex qualitative data, including interviews, focus groups, evaluation reports, open-ended survey responses, and policy documents. In independent benchmarking studies, AILYZE achieved >90% codebook accuracy (validated through a UN Evaluation Group project) and delivered ~75% time savings (validated through a UNICEF evaluation project).
The platform supports a wide range of evaluation approaches, including theory-based and mixed-method evaluations such as thematic analysis, realist evaluations, contribution analysis, and outcome harvesting.
Key capabilities include:
- AI-assisted analysis: Automated codebook generation, systematic coding, and cross-case comparisons
- Insight generation: Report drafting, summaries, and interactive visualisations with traceable citations
- AI-powered exploration: An embedded chatbot that allows evaluators to interrogate findings and explore data dynamically
- Primary data collection: AI avatar interviewers that conduct multilingual, semi-structured interviews, achieving >90% respondent satisfaction (validated through a UNESCO evaluation project)
Causal Map was founded by evaluators Steve, Fiona and James, who were all looking for a faster and more robust way to code and map causal claims from large and heterogeneous qualitative datasets.
From annual reports to interview transcripts, we often rely on rich and complex sources of narrative information to answer evaluation questions like effectiveness, sustainability, impact and inclusion. Causal mapping is a simple and transparent way to turn causal claims into manageable visualisations which can be analysed with rigour, and the Causal Map software has made this approach accessible to all. The advent of generative AI now also allows users to optionally process these narratives much faster and at a larger scale.
They also recently launched QualiaInterviews, a sister AI-assisted app that collects stories of change from stakeholders in a conversational way for evaluation and social research.
