Are looking for a Senior Consultant to contribute to the successful delivery of Itad Gender theme projects
Senior Consultant – Gender
We are looking for a Senior Consultant to contribute to the successful delivery of Itad Gender theme projects by undertaking and leading complex, innovative and diverse assignments that utilise their technical monitoring and evaluation expertise, project management and people management skills. Candidates for this position should have technical expertise and experience of working in international development, to promote gender equality and women and girl’s empowerment.
Itad’s purpose is to provide the insight and ideas to drive more effective use of resources in international development. We are proud to remain an independent M&E consultancy which continues to grow significantly year on year with the support of a diverse client base. Our projects are diverse – spanning theory based, mixed method evaluations, designing complex M&E/learning systems for multi-million pound initiatives, providing strategic advice to programmes and organisations, and conducting long-term, multi-country impact evaluations.
Our values and sense of mission are at the core of what we do. Itad offers the chance to work in a friendly, dynamic and stimulating environment and be part of a rapidly growing team.
Itad’s Gender and Empowerment theme sits within the Governance cluster at Itad, sitting alongside the Governance theme. We strongly believe that we can make a difference to gender equality and women and girls’ empowerment in the developing world through the provision of high quality monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) services.
The theme has a growing portfolio of work which currently focuses on:
- Measuring changes in social norms, relating to gender equality, violence against women and girls and female genital mutilation and cutting. We lead on results measurement on DFID’s innovative gender equality project Voices for Change in Nigeria, which uses a social norms approach to promote behaviour change. It involves annual surveys to track shifts in public attitudes and practices on violence against women and girls, women’s decision-making and women’s leadership. We are also providing support to the UN Joint Programme on Female Genital Mutilation and Cutting to strengthen their results measurement.
- Evaluating multi- and bi-lateral donor efforts to promote girls and women’s empowerment and gender equality in their own organisations and programmes. You can read the findings from the evaluation of the EU’s Support to Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality in Partner Countries which Itad led here. Findings from our recent review of DFID’s Strategic Vision for Girls and Women have been used to inform the reshaping of DFID’s gender work and policy.
- Assessing the value for money and cost effectiveness of initiatives to empower girls and women. We strive to develop approaches which meaningfully capture the cost effectiveness of girls and women’s empowerment. This often means thinking outside the box to evolve existing approaches. We are currently working with the Overseas Development Institute on the 9-year Gender and Adolescence: Global Evidence research programme to put in place an innovative approach to determine from a cost effectiveness perspective, the most opportune stage to intervene in a girl’s life to intervene and the optimal duration of interventions.
- Measuring the effects of development policies and programmes for gender equality more broadly. Itad is stepping up its gender focus across all of our themes. The Gender Theme leads this initiative and provides support to other team members to be able to identify and appropriately address the gender issues in our M&E work.
Going forward, we expect new opportunities to extend our work in preventing violence against women and girls, promoting women and girls’ rights and access to justice, women and girls’ economic empowerment.
